College of Pharmaceutical Sciences Introduction

College Overview

The Creation of New Life Sciences

In the 21st century, the so-called Age of Life Sciences, as genomic medicine and tailor-made treatment become a reality in the field of pharmaceutical sciences, the field is changing in significant ways. A new approach to pharmaceutical education and research with a foundation in life sciences is called for in this changing environment.

In response to these new trends, we at Ritsumeikan University intend to train pharmacists who are equipped with highly specialized knowledge and techniques.

Furthermore, in addition to job training as a component of pharmacist education, we will pursue high-quality education backed by a wealth of natural science-related research, and train high-level specialists in pharmaceutical products in collaboration with the College of Life Sciences.

Education Characteristic

The College of Pharmaceutical Sciences has developed a 6-year curriculum to prepare students to pass the national examination for getting the licence of pharmacist. The college has invited active pharmacists and certified doctors to be faculty members and has established a detailed education system for a select group of 100 students per year. By collaborating with the College of Life Sciences, the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences develops human resources with expertise in pharmaceutical products, and through a crossover curriculum unique to Ritsumeikan as a comprehensive university, the college fosters pharmacists with a broad perspective and deep insight, who are capable of playing a leading role in team treatment.

High-level Education and Research through Collaboration with Medical Colleges

We have concluded an agreement with Shiga University of Medical Science related to education and research collaboration, and are forming a “health creation science society.” In addition, we have concluded a comprehensive academic exchange-related agreement with Kansai Medical University, and are aiming for further education and research development through the active pursuit of collaboration with other medical colleges.

Diverse Learning Options Unique to Ritsumeikan as a Comprehensive University

At Ritsumeikan University, which with the founding of the Colleges of Life Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences now encompasses 12 colleges and 2 institutes, fields of study are expanding to include not only the humanities, natural sciences and social sciences but also an integration of the sciences and humanities.

Acquiring Practical English Language Skills

In their first and second years, students tackle familiar topics in English through project-oriented classes. Fundamental training is carried out in parallel with skills-based workshop-style classes. From their third year onwards, students gather English-language information related to pharmaceutical sciences, and acquire the practical English language abilities necessary for clinics and academic conferences.
